The Down syndrome Metabolic Health Study also needs 100 typically developing children and adolescents without Down syndrome, or controls, between the ages of 10-20 to participate.
Controls are a very important part of this study! In order to learn more about how the risks of children with Down syndrome are different from the risks of typically developing children, we need to compare our participants with Down syndrome to children who are similar to them but who do not have Down syndrome. We match our control subjects to our subjects with Down syndrome based on characteristics like age, sex, race, ethnicity, and body mass index in order to make these comparisons.
Controls in this study will undergo all of the same procedures as the participants with Down syndrome.
If you have volunteered to be a control for this study, we thank you for taking the time to help us understand more about the health of children with Down syndrome! If you are interested in participating in this study as a control subject, please contact us.
